Dry Rot in Timbers
Dry rot fungus often causes extensive damage in buildings prior to detection -it is found mainly in soft woods- decayed wood has a dull brown color with deep cracks along and across grain and crumble between fingers. The appearance of fruit body may be first indication of the presence of dry rot. Dry rot can also be found in masonry.
Wet Rot in Timbers
Normally identified by brown strands cream to brown in color and caused by timber becoming soaked by leaks often accompanied by grey/fawn mushrooms. Wet Rot will decay timber floors, ceilings roof’s when the mositure level allows the fungus to thrive. Remediation usually includes killing and preventing the fungus and possible replacement of decaying wood.
